TYPE OF PERSONAL INJURY WORK UNDERTAKEN
The core of Darrel’s practice is a specialisation in Employer’s Liability and Industrial disease litigation. He regularly delivers seminars and updates on the former on behalf of chambers.
During his first decade in practice, as a developing junior practitioner, he was privileged to receive numerous and consistent instructions in Upper Limb Disorder and HAVS claims. He acquired his knowledge of industrial deafness from the first 6 months on his feet onwards by hard fought battles over Limitation and multi-day trials.
His focus on employer’s liability is interspersed by extensive experience of all types of public liability claim at County Court level.
With increasing seniority he is now primarily instructed in complicated RTA cases, usually needing reconstruction evidence.
LEVEL OF WORK UNDERTAKEN
Darrel advises in all levels of injury claim commensurate with his decade and a half in practice. His stock-in-trade presently consists of advising, drafting and negotiating in claims ranging in value from circa £100,000 up to £1million. Analysis of fatal accidents, whether arising out of clinical negligence or not, is an integral part of the service he provides.
Clinical negligence comprises a distinct and growing part of his practice. He has acted exclusively on behalf of Claimants in this field. His experience spans a wide array of subject matter from routine diagnostic and treatment errors to the misdiagnosis of complex forms of cancer. He brings to this area of practice the cumulative insights of 15 years of reading and analysing medical reports day in , day out.
LEVEL OF WORK UNDERTAKEN
He has acted in amputation cases without leading counsel in quantum only cases. He has enjoyed being junior counsel in birth injury claims arising from clinical management of birth. His experience embraces managing the interrelationship between primary tortious damage and supervening clinical negligence.
