Crime

SPECIALIST INTEREST

Simon's criminal practice is predominantly defence work ranging from everyday crime to serious offences, including murder, robbery, serious sexual offences (including child abuse) and drugs conspiracy. He is currently a Category 4 prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service and has experience of prosecuting on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs and the Department of Work and Pensions. Simon has appeared before all levels of court including the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal.

Simon is particularly experienced in cases involving young defendants, where he is dedicated to providing supportive and sensitive representation for clients and their families.

Simon also specialises in the related area of Prison Law, he provides advice and representation nationwide in a wide variety of cases. The bulk of this work concerns advising in paper parole refusals and appearing at Parole Board hearings, especially Lifer Panels and Recall hearings. He is also available to represent inmates at adjudication hearings before Independent Adjudicators. Simon has also acted in a diverse range of cases relating to treatment inside prison, such as access to offending behaviour courses, categorisation and transfer, human rights issues and data protection.

In 2007 Simon was appointed by the Prisons Minister to the Independent Monitoring Board at H.M.Y.O.I Stoke Heath, where he enjoys a busy role monitoring the operation of the establishment and the treatment of young offenders.
